Our 30th Birthday Party!
On 23rd April, we celebrated thirty glorious years of the Eynsham Day Centre. Over seventy current members, their families, former helpers and friends from the past and present enjoyed a wonderful afternoon party.
We started the fun with some special musical entertainment which soon resulted in dancing and enthusiastic singing by all. We then sat down to the most delicious tea while watching a slide show of memories from the past thirty years. There were two magnificent cakes to cut and fizz to drink with which to toast our splendid day centre.
Now here's to the next decade and we are always pleased to welcome any new members or volunteer helpers. Come and see us any Monday in the Village Hall from 10.00am to 2.30pm or call the Secretary, Jane Johnson (882924) for more information. You will be given a very warm welcome and you can see what fun we have every week.
A Day at the Seaside!
We took the Day Centre to the seaside - not literally but in a themed day to celebrate our gloriously warm summer. Members enjoyed a series of activities including seaside shanties, Oxford Heritage reminiscences and an afternoon of seaside frolics. A great time was had by all - all we needed were some ice creams and a paddle in the sea!
Visit from our MP!
We were delighted to welcome our MP, Robert Courts, to the Day Centre recently. He spoke to our members and commented on the happy, vibrant atmosphere in the Club. Follow the link to see him with us.
We enjoyed a spooky day of activities at the Day Centre. The hall was decorated and staff and members got into the spirit with some amazing costumes. We did some themed art, decorated some pumpkin biscuits, had a delicious lunch (as always) and exercised with Lisa to some haunting music. Great fun!
Jane Johnson was delighted to represent the Centre at the Provincial Grand Lodge of Oxfordshire where she was presented with a cheque for £200. We are particularly grateful to the Aelfric Lodge for their tremendous support and generosity.
We were very pleased to take part in the Christmas Tree Festival at St Leonard's. Our members had great fun making the decorations and we are already looking forward to next year's festive season!
St David's Day
Our very own Welsh volunteer. Lindsey, gave us a St David's Day to remember. She produced a wonderful display of Welsh items and books to look at, and then treated everyone to a super slideshow with Welsh music and picture quizzes. As you can imagine, there were also plenty of lovely daffodils on display, either real or painted ones!
St Patrick's Day
St Patrick's Day saw plenty of leprechauns, a picture quiz about 'Patricks' and a super seated dancing session led by Rosie of Golden Toes.
Our new Co-Ordinator Karen led our weekly exercise class - great fun and keeping us active. We loved the parachute and the boxing too!
Visit from Zoolab
While some of the volunteers needed to keep their distance, all of our members were very brave and thoroughly enjoyed coming face to face with the creatures on display! Georgie from Zoolab was very informative, patient and fun as she showed us a giant snail, a tarantula, a corn snake, a huge stick insect, a cockroach and a very friendly rat. We had a brilliant afternoon and look forward to their next visit.
On Monday 16th September, we had an outing to Evesham Valley Garden Centre. Our journey through the Cotswolds was very beautiful and on the way we saw Broadway Tower. We had the most delicious lunch in the Apple Barn restaurant and plenty of time to look around and do some shopping. We look forward to another trip next year!
